Summary of Terms
- Thanet Writers requests non-exclusive online and UK print rights.
- A payment of £10 per accepted eligible submission will be payable.
- Writers must have some form of connection to Thanet to submit.
Thanet Writers only accepts submissions from writers with a legitimate link to Thanet. All submissions are subject to the approval of the Editorial Team and adherence to the Thanet Writers Editorial Policy. To access the Submission Form at the bottom of this page you must be logged in and be Verified. A guide to using thanetwriters.com is available here.
Upon submission, the Submission Form will redirect to a Thank You page and an email confirmation will be sent to the email address associated with the submitting account. If the page does not redirect then there is an issue with the content in the Submission Form, or the Submission Form has been open too long and the scripts have been disabled by the browser. To address this, check the form, and then reload the page before submitting again.
An email confirming acceptance or rejection will be sent within 90 days of the submission to the email address associated with the submitting account. Correspondence regarding submissions can be sent using the Submissions option on the Contact page. Please do not query submissions until 90 days has passed from submitting.
If your content is accepted you may receive more than one email notifying you of this. These are occasional duplicates created by the system which automatically generates the emails. Please refer to the first email only and not any duplicates.
If your content is not accepted you will receive an email notifying you of this. If this is the case, please do not be disheartened, but continue to submit your work elsewhere. Reasons for rejection will be provided by an Editor as long as the submission meets all the Terms and Conditions for Submission, as set out below. If the submission fails to meet these Terms then unfortunately no other reasons will be provided.
Please take a moment to read the Terms and Conditions for Submission to ensure your submission meets the specified criteria. If you have any questions please refer to the Submissions FAQ.
Terms and Conditions for Submission
For the benefit of these Terms, “writer” hereby refers to the individual who submits content claiming it to be their own.
Submissions will only be considered through the Submission Form, with all required fields completed correctly.
Multiple submissions are accepted, under the condition that each piece of content is submitted separately through the Submission Form.
Previously published content is accepted.
Short stories, poetry and book reviews must be complete self-contained pieces and not serialised or extracts of larger works. Essays can be serialised but each must be submitted separately and in sequence.
All content remains the copyright of the writer or current copyright holder, which must be specified upon submission. If it is found by Thanet Writers that a copyright notice is incorrect or wrongly attributed, responsibility for the reproduction of said content will be entirely with the writer, with Thanet Writers CIC not being held liable. Failure to include a year in a copyright notice may result in that submission being rejected.
Simultaneous submissions are accepted. If content is accepted elsewhere under an exclusive arrangement then it is the responsibility of the writer to inform Thanet Writers immediately using the Submissions option on the Contact page.
There is no age limit for writers, however all submissions will be judged without age consideration and entirely on the merit of the content submitted.
If the writer has accessibility requirements they can get in touch for supported submission using the Accessibility option on the Contact page, whereby their request will be assessed and reasonable adjustments can be made.
Requests for withdrawal of publication can be made up until acceptance for publication is sent via email, or in the case of digital publication on thanetwriters.com from twelve (12) months after the date of publication.
By submitting content the writer agrees, should said content be accepted for online publication, to allow Thanet Writers CIC a non-exclusive licence to publish said content digitally online, which will be freely accessible worldwide, for a minimum of twelve (12) months, until such a time after that the writer requests the withdrawal of publication or the legal term of copyright expires within the United Kingdom.
By submitting content and specifying consent to print rights the writer agrees, should said content be accepted for potential print publication, to allow Thanet Writers CIC a non-exclusive licence to publish said content in print in the United Kingdom for the legal term of copyright as part of an anthology in volume form that will be on sale to the general public in exchange for a one-off payment of £10.62 from which £0.62 is allocated to cover any administrative costs that PayPal may charge for providing a safe and secure transfer. This payment will be made by Thanet Writers to the writer via PayPal within thirty (30) days of publication unless the PayPal address field is left blank, in which case the fee will be returned to Thanet Writers CIC as a donation.
Acceptance for print publication and payment thereof does not guarantee said content will be included in print publication, and notification of digital and print publication will be provided separately to the writer via email. If content is included in a print anthology then a print or ebook copy of said anthology will be provided without cost to the writer by Thanet Writers.
Publication by Thanet Writers does not affect the right of the writer to publish said content elsewhere, either digitally or in print.
By submitting content the writer declares there is no agreement, embargo, or other such limitations currently imposed upon said content from a current or previous publisher, or any other company or organisation. If it is found by Thanet Writers that content has been published in breach of an existing agreement, responsibility for the reproduction of said content will be entirely with the writer, with Thanet Writers CIC not being held liable.
By submitting content the writer declares that said content is entirely his/her/their own work and is not plagiarised or copied from another writer’s content. If it is found by Thanet Writers that content has been plagiarised or copied, responsibility for the reproduction of said content will be entirely with the writer, with Thanet Writers CIC not being held liable. If said content includes quotes or extracts of work currently in copyright under UK law, said quotes or extracts will only be included if the submission is non-fiction and if Fair Use can be justified, at the discretion of the Editorial Team. Inclusion of quotes or extracts that do not meet Fair Use guidelines may result in that submission being rejected. Inclusion of quotes or extracts in fiction or poetry will result in said quotes or extracts being removed or that submission being rejected.
By submitting content the writer agrees to Thanet Writers CIC holding their name, pseudonym (if applicable), email address, biography, website and any social media links, for the duration of the submission process and, if said content is accepted, for the duration of publication of said content, and consent to receiving updates regarding their submission status including confirmation of receipt, acceptance or non-acceptance of online publication, acceptance of print publication (if applicable), updates and notifications regarding print publication (if applicable), editorial adjustments or discussion, updates to writer profiles, changes to these terms, and any other contact deemed reasonably necessary in relation to the publication of said content. These details will not be shared with third parties and contact will only be regarding submitted content or the public profile held on thanetwriters.com or in print.
Content will be eligible for consideration based upon meeting the following criteria:
- The writer has a suitable connection to Thanet, at the discretion of the Editorial Team;
- The content is between 10 and 10,000 words;
- There are no grammar or spelling mistakes in the Submission Form;
- The content has educational and/or artistic merit and is written to a good standard, at the discretion of the Editorial Team;
- The writer agrees to the Terms and Conditions for Submission, as laid out on this page.
