Memory Sonnet

A sonnet to treasured memories.

My memory bank is overloaded
And taken to deleting random stuff
Concentrating on the period from
My middle years to ten minutes ago.

So, I can struggle to recall the names
Of friends and relations I’ve known for years;
The title of the film we saw last week,
Who was in it and what it was about.

But my memory bank locks some things tight.
So, I remember the moment we met
A lifetime ago, but I still recall
The coffee house, you, your guitar and song.

My memory bank may delete this too
But my heart will remember my love for you.

Patricia Mahoney started her writing career as a playwright with five professionally-produced plays and since released a book/CD of stories.
