Gongats
In the forest, at night, look up and shine your torchlight. This poem tells of creatures that live above your head, in the trees.
In the forest
by the trees
keep your torch on so you see.
When it’s dark
you’ll need a light
don’t go out alone at night.
On the branches
gongats wait
you won’t see ’til it’s too late.
Their long fingers
skin so blue
reaching down to grab at you.
When you feel them
then it’s over
as they tap you on the shoulder.
They will lift you
off your feet
drag you up and then they’ll eat.
There’s no warning
that they’re near
in the trees they disappear.
You don’t know
that you’re beneath
big black eyes and vicious teeth.
Sharpened claws
above the ground
they watch but don’t make a sound.
In the shadows
gongats prey
you can’t ever run away.
In the forest
by the trees
keep your torch on so you see.
When it’s dark
you’ll need a light
don’t go out alone at night.
