Inspired by a writing challenge issued to members of the Medway Mermaid writing group, a muse on how a Mermaid would speak if she were a Chatham girl; reflecting her voice and her ability to own herself, and to reflect on her relationship with her mother. Tired of hearing about Mermaids being the “other” and only existing to lure randy sailors away to their doom, this Mermaid has depth.
