Stories often appear to feature characters witnessing the deaths of others, and although the physical aspects of what a character sees can be easily researched, how it affects the witness can be much harder to imagine.

The thought did occur to me that we could send our intrepid reporter to Allepo or many of the places where people witness violent death on a large scale! But this interview is about ordinary people who are totally unprepared and I’m sure it must be common to believe what you are seeing is not real. The most poignant moment of this interview was the few seconds of human connection and despair.
