Poetry slams, where poetry is performed in a competitive environment, are a different side to poetry than page or even performance poetry. To find out how they work, and what entering one is like, we went to the Bookie Slam (part of the Margate Bookie) and spoke to slam host Connor Sansby about the rules and process, first-time slammer Hannah Ruddlesdin about her slam debut, and World Poetry Slam Champion Harry Baker about why slams are important.

Sam is a full-time working father of three, a fitness bod, and a writer; often sighted drinking fine ales and riding motorbikes.
